Meet Our Staff

Our friendly, experienced instructors have a solid foundation in the principles of exercise physiology and are certified in the latest practices in fitness and personal training. They will enable you to meet your goals for sports specific conditioning, functional fitness, and strength training or injury rehabilitation.

We work with clients of all fitness levels. After a thorough assessment, we will design an individual, small group or team program that will allow each client to reach his or her full potential.

Phil Morris

Phil is a native of England and founded the Fitness Group in 1983. He is a 1982 graduate of Syracuse University with a Master of Science degree in Exercise Science. Phil is also certified as an exercise test technologist by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has spent over 25 years in the health and fitness field both as an athlete and consultant. He believes that achieving wellness should be a pleasant, rewarding experience where the journey is more important than the destination.

Sue Barron

Sue’s goal is to make fitness fun! She is in her eighth year with The Fitness Group (TFG) as a Madd Dogg certified Spinning instructor. Recently, Sue was certified as an SCW personal trainer. Her other certifications include Les Mills programming, group fitness and yoga. She is studying nutrition and will be credentialed soon. In her former life, she worked in a bar, was a DJ and worked in TV Sports- all excellent training for her current position!

Tanya Bierwirth

Tanya comes to The Fitness Group at Quail Ridge with a strong background in health and fitness.  She has always enjoyed fitness and sports and started personal training and teaching group fitness classes over 15 years ago.  In the past, she has trained clients in all fitness levels, and along with her many certifications, she has recently become a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist and looks forward to working with that population in the future.  At The Fitness Group, she will be teaching Total Body Conditioning, Spinning and some additional classes in the near future and is available for Personal Training.

Heather Katz-Cote

Heather Cote has a strong passion for health and fitness and has been teaching fitness classes since 2009.  She is a runner and triathlete and has completed multiple races.  She is a certified Spinning, Zumba and TRX instructor, and has taught group fitness classes ranging from cycling to bootcamps.  She truly believes in the power of exercise for a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, and looks to motivate and empower her clients from the moment they step into her class.

Ayla Kavanaugh

Ayla has been passionate about helping people of all ages and fitness backgrounds since she was a teenager.  She did her Masters in Sports Psychology and is enthusiastic about getting people to be the best that they can be on any given day.  For over 20 years, the mother of two, has encouraged people of all ages to live their lives through positive achievements and lifestyle.  Over the years, Ayla has taught a variety of class formats including spinning, Body Pump, Total Body Conditioning, Cardio Circuit, Aqua Aerobics and weight training.

Candice Kilfoyle

Candice Kilfoyle has been teaching Fitness classes for the past 6 years. She has continued to make exercise a part of her life.   She holds a spin certification with Mad Dogg Athletics and is trained & certified in Les Mill BODYPUMP and CXWORX.  She truly believes that exercise is a part of your lifestyle.  When she is not teaching classes, she is working at Tiny Tags as the Director Of Operations, spending time with friends, keeping up on the latest entertainment craze and enjoying life! She lives in Acton with her husband and 2 boys.

Laura Tablowski

Laura has been active in the fitness industry since 1990. Her years of fitness knowledge and expert coaching skills make for a safe, effective and fun class. She is an ACE certified group fitness instructor and personal trainer and also holds many specialty certifications in cycling, yoga, Pilates and Les Mills. Each of Laura’s clients will leave feeling energized and rejuvenated!

Sarah Weiland

Growing up, Sarah studied classical ballet with Jacki Cronsberg from the Boston Ballet and was a competitive swimmer in college. Sarah turned to running in her 20’s and found half-marathons physically challenging, but was looking for more of a mental challenge. After the birth of her identical twins, Sarah turned to yoga and found increased energy and clarity after each yoga practice. Sarah completed her 200 hour training with Mimi Loureiro from O2yoga in 2009. Sarah has experienced the invigorating but calming effects of a steadfast yoga practice and is committed to sharing this with students through a challenging but creative sequence of poses. Sarah is also certified in Wonderbarre which is an infusion of yoga, pilates and ballet and offers private sessions in both practices.
